
Messerschmitt Bf109 G-2/Trop
Bf.109G-2/R6/Trop, W.Nr. 10825, 365a Squadriglia, 150o Gruppo Aut., Sciacca (Italy), July 1943.
This machine was found and documented by the Allies when Sciacca fell, part of a late-production block built towards the end of 1942, this G-2/Trop exhibits a fixed tail wheel with faired wheel well and rubber dust cover introduced on the G-3/4. This feature has not heen recorded as part of late-production G-2 but has resulted in various authors categorizing this plane as a G-4/Ttrop. The plane was used for training 23 May-1 July, 1943. MG 151/20 cannons missing in R6 gun pods.

PAINTING REFERENCE
RLM 70 propeller blades. white spinner and white/RLM 70 backplate. 600mm wide fuselage band. unit and individual aircraft number and cross of Savoy in white. Underwing German markings overpainted with Grigio Azzurro Chiaro (FS36370). Top wing German markings painted over using NC4. White wing tips. Supercharger intake partially painted in RLM 79 with unpainted intake opening. Spoke cast wheels RLM 66. With the G-series came cabin pressurization but only in odd-series variants although even number senes couid be retro-fitted with this equtpment. The pressurization resulted in a redesigned heavier canopy with a thicker frame that was installed on all ariants. The G-series introduced a new engine DB 605A, strengthened windscreen, strengthened under-carriage, a deeper oil cooler and a broad-bladed VDM propeller and provision was made for installation of a GM 1 nitrous oxide power boost designated as U2 which had a great affect on performance. Late-production G-2 models featured larger tires (main+tail) resulting in deeper main wheel wells with top-wing bulges. Erla built machine. RLM 04 undercowl. RLM 02 interior surfaces.
